Message from Principal
This year has been off to a great start! The teachers have heard me say several times this year that we are focusing on the individual child. I am challenging my teachers to strengthen their pedagogy and knowledge in differentiated instruction – tailoring the instruction in the classroom to the individual needs of the students. Only the best teachers do this well, therefore, I know we can do this too! Many of the resources that we have invested in are helping us to achieve that goal!
We are having a great time working in classrooms using our latest technology! This year, our goal is to have students using technology daily in their classrooms. We have purchased 242 ipads with keyboards in order to help facilitate this! In the next two years, our goal is to be one to one with this technology, meaning that every child will have access to an ipad in every class! This will prepare them for testing, but more importantly, this will prepare them for life! In my daily life, I use technology most of my waking hours, as I am sure most of you do as well! Some of the great things that we have incorporated this year include using ipads to help to teach our elementary math curriculum in grades 2-5 through Zearn. Zearn allows students to move at their own pace through the math curriculum, allowing students to excel and giving extra support to the students who are struggling. This allows us to teach our math classes in small groups of no more than 13. Talk about personalized instruction! We also have a new math curriculum in junior high that has some exciting digital components. We are getting our math students the support that they need by utilizing Khan academy! This is a great resource if students are struggling!
For ELA, you will be seeing the use of Edmono in some of our classrooms. This is a great resource that allows students to communicate and collaborate. It also has Microsoft office imbedded in the free account so that parents do not have to purchase Microsoft office for the students to work at home. It has been really neat seeing the students submitting their work online and helping hold one another accountable for due dates. Learn Zillion is another ELA resource that we are using in our classrooms for reading. One new resource that I am excited about is a website called commonlit. This site allows us to set individual assignments for students or groups of students based upon their need.
I am so proud of the success that we saw last year. We saw giant gains in Social Studies when most schools in the state suffered significant drops. I know that with the dedication and focus of our faculty and staff, we will see even more success in the 2018-2019 school year. Thank you for your support in all of our efforts! We could not reach your children without your trust and help.
Mrs. Stephonie A. French, Ed.S
